Artist
Statement:
An abstract realist, an expressionist,
and ultimately a surrealist, I aim to
offer a new style of art that draws inspirations from these schools yet
breaches traditional values and artistic restrictions, ultimately rebelling
against the classical boundaries of colors, forms, words, expression and feeling.
My greatest stimulus is the culturally diverse atmosphere of my hometown, a
Tunisian city of Phoenician origins. Set at the foot the Atlas
mountain range, Jendouba is a melting pot, rich in architecture from North
African, Phoenician, Roman, Muslim, Turkish, Italian, Spanish and French
influences. Through its diverse art heritage including mosaic, sculpture,
Arabic calligraphy and various European artwork, the town of Jendouba transcends borders, empires and time. I
am also deeply inspired by other cultures and their respective languages,
poetry, literature, science and storytelling traditions. Though inspired by different
schools of art and various artists, my artwork derives its ultimate stimulation
from the diversity in the landscape, cultural heritage and identity of Tunisia.
